Hello! I’m Cynthia

Certified Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher

I am a Certified Meditation & Mindfulness Teacher, as well as a spiritual blogger, author, artist, and entrepreneur. My real name is Cynthia Calhoun, but here on the website, I write under my pen name, Cynthia Sageleaf. It makes it easier to find me on Google!

I first encountered the idea of meditation in 2002 and started my practice regularly in 2010 as part of my spiritual journey. I also discovered that meditation really helped to alleviate the stress and anxiety I felt while living the challenges of modern life. When the people around me started noticing how calm I remained in stressful situations, they started asking about my “secret.” It was then that I knew I needed to share my practice and wisdom with others.


Online meditation courses

I have an eight-week online meditation course that will teach you how to meditate, but will also help with anxiety, anger, and overall well-being.

When you participate in an online course, you can add private coaching to your learning. We’ll work one on one to help you really establish a beneficial practice.

Guided Meditations + Podcast

Several free guided meditations are here on the website. You can find a few of them on the free resources page. 

Launching in January, 2019 is a new podcast that will talk about all things mindfulness and meditation.

My Approach

When I teach you meditation, I bring a variety of techniques to the table. This helps you find and choose an approach that works for you so that you can establish your own practice.

I first began meditating in 2002, but I didn’t have a routine. In 2008, I established a regular practice. Later, when I began going to retreats and trainings, my practice went to a whole new level.

My personal practice includes a variety of different types of meditations. I love using mantras, breath awareness meditations, and more.

In a given class, I will guide you through these different meditations to expose you to some of the many types of meditation out there.

What if I can't stop thinking?

You might be surprised to learn that thoughts are a normal part of the meditation process. The mind is designed to think. With time, you’ll learn to focus less on your thoughts and more on your meditation.

Meditation is for people who have traveled to India and studied with monks

Meditation is a practice that is accessible to everyone.

Does a soccer player have to be from Latin America or Europe to be good at it?

Meditation is just the same in that it’s a practice and you can learn to get good at it anywhere.

In fact, Cynthia herself has never been to an ashram, never been to India (yet), and has successfully meditated for more than a decade.

Meditation is a luxury

Meditation is a skill that, when practiced, bestows benefits that will surprise you.

You’ll learn how to be more focused and efficient. In the long run, this will save you time and energy to be able to do other things.

It is a practice of self-love. When you make time to do this practice for yourself, you’ll be more present for family and friends who need you.

You’ll also be calmer when life’s events go up and down.

When you think of it as a luxury, retrain your mind to think of it as a necessity – one that will benefit you for your whole life.

I never know if I'm meditating correctly

If you bring your thoughts back to the focus of your meditation (i.e. the breath, or a mantra), you’re doing it correctly.

But there’s more to it than that. Why not sign up for a class to find out?

What if I don't have time?

Think about all the things you do during the course of a day that take five minutes:
Standing in line for coffee
Microwaving your lunch
Waiting in traffic
Scrolling by on social media
Brushing your teeth

You can learn to meditate in as little as five minutes per day. When you start to see benefits, you’ll want to increase the time you spend meditating because you’ll see how it can be so helpful in your day-to-day life.

Meditation is hard

You just need to be willing to give it a try, and be willing to re-focus on the object of your meditation, no matter how many times it takes.

However, there are things I can teach you to help make it easier.

Cynthia’s Meditation Path

She shares her experience with it, her research, and even tries different challenges to see what effects meditation will have on her.

I recently taught a meditation workshop as part of the More Than Mindfulness Conference held at Rainbow Community School in Asheville, NC.

This was the second time I’ve led a workshop at the conference. I was able to send a beautiful group of people out into the world, ready to begin a meditation practice.
